Our personal favorite is a Sundae from the Dairy Bar, where you can get creative with your toppings and enjoy some delicious homemade fudge. What’s summer without a trip to the pool? Whether you’re looking to do some laps or just lounge around in the sun, Fairfield has a traditional pool experience at the Community indoor & outdoor pool, complete with a water slide! If you’re looking for something a little more unique, try the beach at Waterworks Park where you can swim in a natural setting along the lake.

Fairfield is home to some beautiful nature trails, perfect for a summer hike. 16 miles of trail will fly by fast as you explore prairies, woods, and wetlands. If you’re feeling adventurous, try a bike ride on some of the area’s gravel or dirt roads. The hills are manageable, even though the terrain will give you a run for your money.

- Shop at the Farmers Market
Looking for fresh, locally-grown produce? Look no further than the Fairfield Farmers Market. Open every Saturday from May to October, the Farmers Market is the perfect place to find all of your summertime essentials. Beyond the fruits and vegetables, flowers, and baked goods, you’ll also be entertained by local musicians and treated to local artwork.
- Get out on the water
Up for a little fishing or canoeing? Three retired water reservoirs in Fairfield are refreshing places to go cool off and enjoy the lush greenery and to kayak, canoe, swim and fish. Or try the Cedar Creek Water Trail which uses a 6- mile scenic section of Cedar Creek, or the 72-mile Skunk River Water Trail which passes through Keokuk, Washington, Jefferson, and Henry counties.

Every summer, the town of Fairfield hosts a series of free outdoor concerts. On Tuesday evenings, grab a blanket and head to the Central Park for an evening of live concerts under the stars featuring the local Community Band. Or enjoy the monthly Live on the Square events featuring local and regional talent. The Fairfield Arts & Convention Center also hosts outdoor concerts on Thursday evenings throughout the summer with everything from jazz to country to rock.
