The Fairfield Farmers Market began in 1975, sponsored by Pathfinders, with a few vendors set up in the parking lot of the then Senior Center on South Court Street.  Clay and Hazel Lanman of Keosauqua and Ernie Hinkel from Birmingham were among the first farmers to offer their homegrown produce for sale.

In the 1990’s the Market found a home on the square and later, in the 2000’s, moved to the current location of Howard Park.

The Summer outdoor Market has expanded to include two weekly offerings, Saturday mornings and Wednesday afternoons.

Along the way the market also acquired 501c3 status and began operating year round.  In addition to providing an outlet for local growers and producers to sell their products, the Market has become a cornerstone of the Fairfield community, offering musical entertainment, special events and a friendly place for folks to gather.

Thanks to all who have paved the way and who continue to participate in our thriving Market.
